The site is located in a particularly sensitive area with no access to municipal sewers. The river into which treated effluent flows is extremely sensitive and under very close monitoring by both the EA and English Nature. The old plant consisted of a number of stone filters and was drastically undersized following a plant expansion.
A completely new effluent treatment plant designed to treat 450 m3 per day was constructed. It involved raw effluent balancing including an automatic emergency divert system, DAF clarification, biological treatment, nitrification and final polish filtration. Because of the stringent consent limits and sensitivity of the receiving watercourse, CAP Tech provided extensive final effluent monitoring and recording facilities.
